About this studio

Building confidence, musical sensitivity, passion, and proper technique through the art of dance since 1980.

True Dance and Company has built confidence, musical sensitivity, passion, and proper technique in Lincoln youth through dance since 1980, founded by Director Shari True. In 1985, Ms. True helped form what is now the Lincoln Midwest Ballet Company, giving young dancers the opportunity to perform in major classical ballet works. TDC welcomes dancers from age 2 through a full academy and competitive company structure — Sparks, Minis, Juniors, Teens, and Seniors — with classes spanning ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and pointe.

TDC's competitive team travels nationally and holds numerous prestigious awards. What makes the studio truly special is its legacy: many of today's faculty grew up dancing at TDC themselves, some starting as young as age 2, and returned as adults to teach the next generation — a rare, genuine through-line few studios can claim.

Our Faculty

True Dance and Company is led by founder and Director Shari True, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate in Children's Education and Dance whose choreography has been performed by the Chamberlain Ballet Company in Dallas and who appeared in Universal Studios' film "To Wong Foo" as the dance teacher. Academy Director McKenzie Dosch, a TDC alumna since age 2, has led the studio's youngest dancers since 2011.

TDC's teaching team is distinguished by an unusually high number of homegrown instructors — including Ashley Durst, who holds a Master's degree in Dance from Oklahoma City University and danced professionally with Carnival Cruise Lines; Bailey Debold, a four-year Tremaine Performance Company member who assisted choreographer Paula Abdul; and Josie Fillmore, a Grand Canyon University Dance Performance graduate and Youth America Grand Prix competitor. This genuine cycle of dancers returning to teach where they grew up gives TDC students a rare sense of continuity and belonging.
